Ettore Arco Isidoro Bugatti was born on September 15, 1881, into an artist family in Milan, Italy. He was the eldest child of Carlo and Theresa Bugatti. His father, Carlo, was a famous artist and designer.

After graduating from high school, Ettore Bugatti worked in a bicycle factory. When he was not even 17 years old, he was invited to work in a factory in Alsace.
