Does F stand for Fast and Furious or for Family? This summer the ninth film in the Fast and Furious film series answers this question. Though the series has always emphasized the concept of “family,” this film, which reunites most of the original cast members, including director Justin Lin, intends to expand on it, with Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty’s (Michelle Rodriguez) son, as well as the new threat posed by Dom’s brother, played by John Cena. Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 9)

Space Jam: A New Legacy |Most Exciting Movies to watch this summer

Like 1989’s Ghostbusters, 1996’s Space Jam is one of those weird cinematic curiosities that has amassed an outsized reputation as a sacrosanct pop-cultural landmark in the eyes of viewers who first saw it as children.

In-Universe Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron James plays a fictionalized version of himself who is sent to Serververse, a virtual space populated with every IP owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment, as a fictionalized version of themselves.

James is forced to compete in a winner-take-all basketball game with the Looney Toons to reclaim his kidnapped son (played by Don Cheadle) and all of his Instagram followers. It’s a bonkers fever dream scenario akin to Ready Player One and Ralph Breaks the Internet from 2018.

The Suicide Squad (Aug. 6)

The Suicide Squad (not to be confused with 2016’s Suicide Squad) continues the dark side of the DC Universe this summer. Many directors were considered for this sequel to the 2016 box office success/critical disappointment before finally landing on James Gunn, who is well-known among Marvel fans for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Despite being based in the same universe, The Suicide Squad, which will also be available on HBO Max, features an almost entirely new squad of super-powered villains who are forcibly recruited to save the planet from an imminent threat. There would be no Deadshot (Will Smith) but new characters like Peacekeeper (John Cena) and Bloodsport (Idris Elba). If there is only one thing fans can be sure to see in this movie is the return of Margot Robbie as devilish and delightful Harley Quinn.
